German for nurses: the level actually required

B2 is the norm — your federal state decides the details.

German for nurses: the level actually required

In nursing, language is patient safety: handover, medication and documentation all happen in German.

Most states require B2 under the CEFR; some add a nursing-specific language examination.

Authoritative

The state recognition authority decides which level and which certificates are accepted. Its written answer is the only binding one.

Checklist
  • Confirm accepted certificates
  • Target B2 with strong speaking
  • Learn nursing vocabulary early
