Nursing qualification recognition in Germany: the full roadmap
Nursing is a regulated profession in Germany. Recognition is the gate that opens the contract, the visa and the full salary.

Nursing in Germany is a regulated profession: you may only use the professional title with recognition from the competent state authority. That recognition unlocks everything else — contract, visa and full pay.
- Full equivalence → immediate professional licence
- Partial equivalence → a Defizitbescheid listing exactly what is missing
- Rejection → usually incomplete documents; it can be remedied
With a Defizitbescheid you choose between an adaptation course (Anpassungslehrgang) in a German facility or a knowledge examination (Kenntnisprüfung).
Language
Most states require at least B2, some additionally a healthcare-specific language exam. The state authority is always the deciding source.
